LET ME BE THE ONE

(Music and Lyrics by Steve McAndrew)

Verse 1
we met in early, early spring
as mother nature woke to do her thing
we got high, got high on love
our hearts entwined, as a hand to a glove

Chorus 1
LET ME BE THE ONE for you
to lean upon your whole life through
LET ME BE THE ONE you see
to keep you safe, help keep you free
LET ME BE THE ONE you hear
giving you strength to help allay your fear
and after all is said and done
let me be, LET ME BE THE ONE

Verse 2
then came the summer and that time apart
the separation tore our minds and hearts
three nights of passion then away again
the flight delay only increasing the pain

Chorus 2
LET ME BE THE ONE for you
to lean upon your whole life through
LET ME BE THE ONE you see
to keep you safe, help keep you free
LET ME BE THE ONE you hear
giving you strength to help allay your fear
and after all is said and done
let me be, LET ME BE THE ONE

Chorus 3
LET ME BE THE ONE for you
to lean upon your whole life through
and after all that's said and done
let me be, LET ME BE THE ONE

Comment:- This is a straightforward song about the early stages of my relationship with my lovely wife Linda. The separation mentioned, was the hell of being away on a seven week tour of Denmark, when all I wanted to do, was be here in Scotland with my new love. The next two lines deal with my journey by bus from Fredericia (Denmark) on Sunday evening to London Victoria (via Germany, Belgium and France). Then on the Monday evening, across London to Heathrow from which I flew to Inverness , where Linda (seconded from her work with Scottish Brewers) picked me up. I left on the Thursday morning on the first shuttle to Heathrow and there was a problem with the undercarriage of the plane which required it be checked before departure. We had clearly already said our goodbyes (the person who said parting was such sweet sorrow is an arse!!) and the aircraft spent twenty minutes sitting on the centre of the runway before finally departing. My parting vision, is that of Linda standing before the white Vauxhall Cavalier company car, in her red jacket, waving, before very quickly plunging into very thick, very low cloud (100 feet). From Heathrow to Gatwick. Gatwick to Billund in Denmark (the headquarters of Lego are right beside the airport!). Billund (by car) to Fredericia. Fredericia to Thisted in the North of the country (in a trusty old Mark 2 Ford Transit), for a 21:00 start - The world is indeed a small place!!
