SCARLET LIES
(Music and Lyrics by Steve McAndrew)

(This was originally a Scarlet Lies song but this audio is by my later band GMT)

Intro
you started by telling those white lies, then the darker shades closed you in
you then had to start telling those SCARLET LIES and you can never, no, you'll never get back again

Verse 1
you set off so conventionally, nothing was new, following fore-fathers' footsteps before
you offset your problems, you parried your troubles and in doing so thought you'd evened the score
but the kickback was subtle, unnoticed by you, till the cracks in the dam increased size
you were dabbling in deception, unexpected reception, hit you hard straight between the eyes

Chorus 1
if you hadn't started telling those white lies, darker shades couldn't have followed on
but it's too late now, you see those SCARLET LIES have packed your bags and simply moved you on

Verse 2
leaving friends behind you is never too easy, but you've only got yourself to blame
instead of strutting round with your head held high, you try and bury it in the sand with your shame
the trial was so quick, so sure, so slick, the jury had a short recession
your plea was unheard it fell on barren ground, no-one cared enough to answer your question

Chorus 2
if you hadn't started telling those white lies, darker shades couldn't have followed on
but it's too late now, you see those SCARLET LIES have packed your bags and simply moved you on

Verse 3
you see your errored ways but the remorse stays, it's a long and rocky trek down the road
you feel all the hurt that is pent up inside and the passage of time seems to have slowed
the machine in your head has unluckily led to your total demise and destruction
it could have been oh so different, so fine if your mouth had received better instruction

Chorus 3
if you hadn't started telling those white lies, darker shades couldn't have followed on
but it's too late now, you see those SCARLET LIES have packed your bags and simply moved you on

and moved you on SCARLET LIES

Comment:- This is another lyric that isn't too hard to understand. It focuses on one individual, and I think she knows who she is! The comments are not unlike those for Play With Fire, except this time the person is driven by her cat!!
